(I'm assuming you're using Arduino processors, which may not be true) regarding your 1): Suggest you look at sample code at https://github.com/jrowberg/i2cdevlib/blob/master/Arduino/MPU6050/examples/MPU6050_DMP6/MPU6050_DMP6.ino and in particular, the routine mpu.dmpGetCurrentFIFOPacket(fifoBuffer) which greatly simplifies the work needed to read from the fifo. Also suggest verifying your libraries have this fix: https://github.com/jrowberg/i2cdevlib/blob/master/Arduino/MPU6050/MPU6050.cpp Cheers, Nerdoug.
