trbinsc
As I understand it, the DMP uses acceleration data to find the direction of gravity and fuses that with the gyroscope data to get the orientation. From what I've seen while testing, it's very stable, with very little noise or drift. However, what happens if there is no reliable gravity direction, like when in freefall or accelerating downwards? Specifically, I'm planning on using the MPU6050 in a flight computer for a model rocket, where the vertical acceleration over a typical flight can look like the graph I've attached. Could this cause the orientation to become incorrect because the DMP thinks that gravity flipped upside-down? Thanks!
trbinsc
In case anyone else wants to know this, I tested it. I found that as long as the gyroscope is well calibrated, the DMP can recognize what's going on and the orientation will stay correct.
